Dalton Wildlands Defence League (DWDL) is a provincially registered not-for-profit corporation. It is a citizen-based advocacy group with hundreds of supporters in the City of Kawartha Lakes, particularly the former Dalton township. DWDL was formed in May 2009 to oppose the Giofam Investments granite quarry application and to protect our natural and built environments in the face of this proposed large-scale, below the established groundwater table, aggregate development in Dalton.
Our Mission:
To preserve and protect the environment, including plants and wildlife, air and water, while continuing to foster land uses that are compatible with agriculture and recreation in order to enhance the quality of life for people in the former Township of Dalton in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
DWDL’s Objectives:
- To encourage land use practice that is compatible with agriculture, farming, and recreation in Dalton Township.
- To use formal and informal processes to safeguard the roads, water, air, and natural heritage of Dalton Township.
- To gather and exchange information, including scientific and technical information.
- To encourage dialogue among politicians, industry, experts, and permanent and seasonal residents, with respect to land use.
